Volunteer Shifts
Location

Friday, September 16th
3811 Eastex Freeway (US 59 just south of 610)

8:00 AM - 12:00 PM
Houston TX 77026

1:00 PM - 5:00 PM
713.223.3700

The Food Bank is on the southbound feeder of US 59 at Cavalcade. Look at the Mapquest map. Exit US 59 north at Cavalcade and go west to Jensen.  Turn north on Jensen and look for parking directions.  It''s crowded. They will probably ask you to park near Goodwill and walk down Vintage Street to the Houston Food Bank. If you are coming south on the feeder, it may be possible to turn on Vintage.  If not, continue to Cavalcade and Jensen.
Need

The Houston Food Bank needs 150 volunteers per shift to sort, pack and categorize food.  Volunteers will be working in large tents in the parking lot.  Our hope is that members and friends of the HGS will be able to support the Houston Food Bank effort with a steady stream of at least 20 to 50 people all day long.  It is anticipated that some folks will only be able to volunteer an hour or two of time.  We welcome everyone to come out and support this worthwhile organization.  Go to the Houston Food Bank Website to find out more about their organization.
Please note the following safety guidelines:
• All volunteers must wear closed-toed shoes.  No flip-flops or sandals.
• If Possible be prepared to work a 4 hour shift as listed above, However if you can only work an hour or two please come out.
• Leave purses and cell phones at home.
• Volunteer assignments involve sorting, packing, and categorizing food.
• Currently, volunteers are working in large tents in the front parking lot.
• Remember to stay hydrated while working in the heat, and we will provide bottled water for everyone.
• All volunteers to be at least 16 years old for safety reasons.
• Bring a sack lunch and will have lunch together
