Outreach Committee and Katrina Victims

HOUSTON GEOLOGICAL SOCIETY
COMMUNITY OUTREACH COMMITTEE

HGS INVOLVEMENT IN HURRICANE KATRINA ASSISTANCE
The HGS solicits immediate participation from all HGS members and friends!
There will be a Sign-Up Table adjacent to the registration table during HGS events this Fall.  Bring Your Checkbooks, too!  HGS will be collecting financial contributions to assist the American Red Cross, Houston Food Bank and the Salvation Army.
Bring Your PDA’s and Daytimers!
HGS will also be collecting names of members in order to build a database of those willing to serve as volunteers for Hurricane Katrina Related Assistance.
Near-future HGS-sponsored events under consideration are:
• HGS Clothing Drive
• Manning a four-hour shift or a full day at the Houston Food Bank
• Assisting the American Red Cross Effort at Reliant Park
These events are tentatively scheduled for Saturdays in order to insure maximum opportunity for participation by HGS members.
Bring Your Open Hearts!
• We are trying to develop Free Temporary Housing for displaced individuals and families of professionals who are members of the New Orleans Geological and Geophysical Societies.  If you are willing to share your home or a vacation home with a displaced individual, please contact a member of the HGS Community Outreach Committee listed below.
• We are also trying to develop Free Temporary Office Space for small companies and independents so they may continue their operations.  If you are willing to share your office or know of some one who may be willing to share extra office space, please contact a member of the HGS Community Outreach Committee.
To help on the committee, and/or to volunteer, contact the HGS office at 713.463.9476 or contact any of the individuals listed below. Their email addresses are posted on the HGS Community Outreach Committee page.
