Late March HGS Event Update

Houston Geological Society UpdateLate March and April 2nd, 2005 There are two more great HGS meetings in March: Monday, March 28 - North American Dinner: "The Maverick Basin - New Technology, New Success" at the Westchase Hilton 5:50pm.Wednesday, March 30 - General Luncheon: "Rigel Field Appraisal and Development" (Mississippi Canyon, Deepwater Gulf of Mexico) at the Houston Petroleum Club, 11:15am.And a Community Project that everyone can enjoy:Call for Volunteers - April 2nd "Keep 5 Alive Project"

  1. Fence Building at the Evergreen Negro CemeteryWe will be building a short white picket fence around the Evergreen Negro Cemetery. One side is already built, we may need to reinforce that side, but we will be building 3 new sides. Work will commence the week before Saturday, April 2, with digging the post holes and cementing the posts in place. On Saturday, April 2 the remaining pieces of the fence will be put up and painted. Saturday, April 2 will be from 8:00 a.m. until noon. We will advise when (day and time) the week before we will be going to cement the posts. Team Captain - Williams, Michael P. (832) 379-6153
  2. Removal and clearing of  debris at the Evergreen Negro CemeteryWe need to continue to remove debris, limbs, and other obstructions prior to survey and mapping project that will put down a grid with Section Numbers, Lots, and Coordinates so that we can document and know the location of every grave space.   3. Landscaping at Finnigan ParkLight landscaping at Finnigan Park will include adding new soil and plants to existing cement planters. From 8:00 a.m. until noon. Team Captain - Sheila Gurwitz (281) 293-2694.
